Telecommunications
Award-Winning SAP Commerce Cloud Implementation for Telekom Slovenije

Challenge
Telekom Slovenije is headquartered in Ljubljana and is Slovenia’s national telecom operator. It’s a leading provider of fixed and mobile communications, system integration, cloud, and ICT services, with subsidiaries across Southeastern Europe, including Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Telekom Slovenije serves more than 200,000 broadband and TV users and 1,000,000 mobile users, which helps explain why scalability, channel consistency, and operational integration mattered in this commerce transformation.
The central business problem emerged after Telekom Slovenije acquired another telecom business and had to combine technologies, services, products, and a larger user base into one coherent digital commerce environment. Telekom Slovenije needed a robust, scalable, and flexible omnichannel platform capable of supporting both B2B and B2C digital marketing, sales, CRM-adjacent processes, and self-service. The platform had to handle diverse product types, including physical, standalone, rebinding, and loyalty products, while later project phases expanded telecom-package sales for internet, TV, and telephony.
What made this challenge structurally difficult was not only platform replacement but also post-merger commercial unification. Telekom Slovenije needed one commerce layer that could absorb more traffic, support subscriptions, expose coherent catalogs, and integrate tightly with back-office environments rather than merely presenting products online. In other words, this was not a storefront redesign project; it was a sales-process and product-governance consolidation initiative.
Solution
Services:
Telekom Slovenije selected SAP Commerce Cloud, then still commonly referred to as SAP Hybris, because it could support a full-featured online shop and offered telecom-specific accelerator functionality. SaM Solutions and VERSO Altima Group were chosen for custom development and implementation. The architecture consistently centered on B2B/B2C sales processes, subscriptions, self-service, CMS, catalog management, promotions, inventory, advanced search, recommendations, notifications, SEO, and tight back-office connectivity.
Three-phase SAP Commerce implementation
The project was organized into three consecutive phases.
During the first phase, the team built the online store from scratch and integrated it with Telekom Slovenije’s back-office environment, including enterprise resource planning and product lifecycle management systems.
The second phase focused on developing and expanding telecommunications-specific functionality. This included digital sales processes for internet, television, and telephone service packages.
During the third phase, the online store and the newly developed telco-specific capabilities were integrated into one complete commerce environment. This approach allowed the team to establish the ecommerce foundation first and then progressively introduce more complex industry processes.

B2B and B2C sales and self-service
The platform supports scalable digital sales processes for both business and consumer customers. The team developed sales flows for Telekom Slovenije’s different product and service types, including physical goods, standalone offerings, subscriptions, loyalty products, and telecommunications service packages.
The implemented commerce functionality included:
- B2B and B2C sales processes
- Subscription-based services and payment models
- A customer self-service and user management portal
- Sales flows for different product types
- Shopping cart and checkout processes
- Cart and order management
- Runtime eligibility rules
- Inquiry management
Runtime eligibility rules help determine whether a particular customer is entitled to purchase or activate a selected product, package, or service under the applicable commercial conditions. Together with the self-service functionality, these capabilities enabled customers to complete more sales and account-management processes digitally.
Product, content, inventory, and promotion management
The joint team implemented the tools Telekom Slovenije required to manage a large and varied commercial portfolio. The solution includes a content management system, product and service catalog administration, catalog browsing, and feature-based filtering and sorting.
The platform also provides:
- Product information and catalog management
- Stock and inventory management
- Vouchers and redemption codes
- Discounts and promotional campaigns
- A promotions engine
- Product catalog filtering and sorting
- Content management
- Order administration
SaM Solutions and Verso Altima Group deeply customized the SAP Hybris cockpits used by Telekom Slovenije’s internal teams. These modifications made it easier to structure product information, organize catalogs, and administer complex commercial offerings through the back-office interface.
Back-office integrations and connected commerce
Integration was one of the most substantial parts of the implementation. The ecommerce platform was connected with 18 Telekom Slovenije back-office systems, including enterprise resource planning and product lifecycle management solutions.
These connections allowed the online store to exchange product, inventory, order, customer, and operational information required to support end-to-end sales processes. The integration layer was implemented with SAP DataHub, Impex, and web services.
By connecting customer-facing commerce functionality with the company’s internal systems, the joint team created a unified environment rather than an isolated online storefront.
Search, recommendations, and customer communication
The platform provides advanced full-text search capabilities that help customers navigate Telekom Slovenije’s extensive catalog of devices, products, subscriptions, and service packages. Its search environment combines SOLR and Google Search technologies.
The joint team also implemented:
- Product and service recommendations
- Up-selling and cross-selling
- Personalized website notifications
- Notification triggers and notification management
- Search engine optimization
- Catalog filtering and sorting
These capabilities allow Telekom Slovenije to guide customers toward relevant products and packages while supporting digital marketing and promotional activities within the same commerce environment.

Full-cycle project delivery
SaM Solutions and Verso Altima Group provided a full software development life cycle during the implementation. The team’s responsibilities included solution architecture, business analysis, project management, software development, quality assurance, and production release.
The joint team adapted its work to changing business and technical requirements throughout the project. This delivery model enabled Telekom Slovenije and its technology partners to introduce the platform incrementally while maintaining continuity between the three implementation phases.
Success
SaM Solutions and VERSO Altima Group successfully delivered the complete SAP Commerce solution and the required integrations with Telekom Slovenije’s back-end environment. The resulting platform supports the company’s B2B and B2C ecommerce operations, telecommunications subscriptions, self-service processes, product administration, inventory management, promotions, search, recommendations, and digital customer communication.
Instead of operating as a separate online store, the new platform became an integrated component of Telekom Slovenije’s enterprise landscape. Its connection with 18 internal systems enabled the company to manage complex digital sales processes and a diverse portfolio of physical products and telecommunications services through one commerce ecosystem.
The implementation received an SAP Quality Award, recognizing the quality of the SAP software implementation and the expertise demonstrated during the project. SAP Quality Awards recognize customers that effectively plan, execute, and manage SAP implementations while simplifying business processes and delivering organizational value.
The project also established a successful long-term relationship between SaM Solutions, VERSO Altima Group, and Telekom Slovenije.
