Customer Loyalty Web System for PAYBACK, Europe’s Largest Bonus Program

Loyalty Partner Solutions developed the initial version of their customer loyalty system, Loyalty Management Suite (LMS), in-house. Its goal was to enable retailers to increase revenue, better understand shoppers, build brand awareness, and generate shopper excitement.

Over time, Loyalty Partner Solutions needed to evolve LMS into a more flexible and scalable platform for a growing range of business domains. The existing solution already supported core loyalty program operations, but partners required more control over redemption models, promotional settings, discounts, gifts, and other program-specific rules.

To support this expansion, the platform had to become easier to configure, more convenient to use, and better suited to the needs of different industries and loyalty scenarios. The main goal was to modernize the solution and increase its business value for both loyalty program partners and end users.

LPS engaged SaM Solutions as a software development partner to help enhance the platform, extend its functionality, and support the customer’s long-term product growth.

SaM Solutions provided Loyalty Partner Solutions with a dedicated Java development team to enhance the Loyalty Management Suite and support its further product development.

The team joined the LPS’s existing development process and worked in an Agile/Scrum setup. This approach allowed both sides to manage changing business and technical requirements, maintain clear priorities, and release working software every two weeks.

The solution was built on a service-oriented architecture (SOA), which applies state-of-the-art technologies, frameworks, and open system operation standards. The architecture supported flexible system configuration, reliable integration, and further functional expansion.

Close communication between the teams, transparent task management, and regular releases helped increase development efficiency and keep the project aligned with the LPS’s business goals.

Delivered features

Some of the delivered features enabled loyalty program partners to:

• Identify members with CPAN
• Use PAYBACK payment cards for banking-related scenarios
• Enter and update promotion data
• Enter and update gift data
• Redeem points for vouchers
• Redeem points for gifts
• Reserve redeemed vouchers

After modernization, PAYBACK turned into Europe’s largest multi-partner bonus and customer loyalty program. The updated system allowed customers to use PAYBACK cards to collect points and redeem them for store discounts, travel miles, vouchers, or gifts, depending on what each loyalty partner offered.

Compared with the initial version, the updated solution provided more redemption options, easier access to loyalty program settings, and greater value for different business scenarios.

By leveraging SaM Solutions’ established engineering practices, LPS significantly optimized their software development efficiency, was able to extend the platform faster, respond to changing requirements, and support further product growth.
